You brought me to this. Hooray for inter-blog debates.
Anyways, I believe the Tau are good and idealistic, possibly the nicest race in the universe, but only because you hear of them within their culture, but practically never from any other race’s point of view. They’re based after the Communist Regimes of the 1900’s, where the people were kept in line simply because they were brainwashed and none knew the real story. In Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, when you beat the Tau campaign, there’s a tidbit of fluff in there about them integrating the Imperial Guard armies into their ranks (and they looked awesome at that) but they ‘mysteriously’ never really procreated, and were killed off in a generation or two because of sterilization programs. I am a Tau fan, but I can’t just say they aren’t pure good. Something is happening in there that we don’t know about.
Also, I just want to put in my ideas about Commander Farsight (non-40k fans can stop reading now). I don’t believe that he’s being corrupted by Chaos, since the blade he wields is obviously of Chaos origin. I heard somewhere that Tau have practically no (none at all, maybe) psychic imprint on the Immaterium. The Chaos Gods are aware of them, but can’t ’see’ them. That’s why Tau need to take advantage of a race they subjugated to travel through the warp, and even then, they ’skim’ across its fabric. I just think that Commander Farsight realized that the Ethereals are taking advantage of the Tau, so he killed the ones in his fleet. Maybe the Ethereals have some psychic or pheromonal thing that allows them to control the Tau. Something sinister, because, as you said, the artwork in recent works has grown a lot darker and more grim concerning the Tau.
Anyways, enough rambling from me. I heard you got a Canon EOS 400D. Is that true?

Damn, that’s a good title. Much better than Bemusements of the Bored, but I’m pretty sure it’s copyrighted by some dead guy. Damned dead guys, taking our titles!
Anyways.
Lately, I’ve been addicted to Warhammer 40,000. If you don’t know what Warhammer 40,000 is, it’s a strategic wargame that’s set 38,000 years in the future. Not only this, but there’s literally tonnes of backstory. Let me give you a short (long) explanation taken from The Lexicanum, a 40k wiki.
“The Warhammer 40,000 game world is most readily characterized as a gothic science-fantasy setting. The central and most popular elements of the Warhammer 40k universe are the Space Marines, futuristic versions of fantasy knights and the finest warriors of the Imperium of Mankind, a dystopian and degenerate galaxy-spanning civilization.
…This mix leads to a wholly unique fictional universe, in which every side is to some extent evil- though some are slightly less evil than others. The Imperium for example, is often presented as the “good side”, and while it may be true that there are many good people within it, as a whole it is an oppressive, xenophobic, corrupt mess which is only able to keep control of its population through the fact that being worked to the bone assembling rifles and worshipping the Emperor is slightly better than being worked to the bone and then brutally killed by Ork warlords.“
Then there’s all sorts of other nasties. There’s Chaos, beings born from another dimension, made wholly of the emotions of every sentient being in the universe, and are therefore horrendously evil and gross. There’s the Eldar, ’space-elves’ that fell from grace, creating another Chaos god in their downfall. There’s the idealistic Tau, which are just space communists (and everything bad that entails from that). There’s several other races, such as the necrotic Necrons, hoping to destroy every single molecule of life in the universe. There’s the Orks, who literally live to fight. There’s the Tyranids, bioforms that destroy entire planets to provide nutrients to keep breeding and such.
All in all, it’s amazing. You should get into it (read wikipedia articles). If not for the outrageously expensive wargaming, then for the backstory and setting stories.
Also, Happy Birthday, Andel!

Aye, it’s been a really long time, since I forgot my password and all. I don’t know what I’m doing here anymore.
Anyways, surgery was a success, school has been fun, and I’ve got a brand-spanking-new camera. It’s a Digital SLR, which means it is better than you. Hooray for the Canon Digital Rebel XT.
